Before July 4, 2020, Experience, also called EXP or more commonly, XP, was earned from racing and opening mystery boxes. Once a player collected enough XP, they leveled up. The more that a player leveled up, the more XP they needed to level up further.

Obtaining Experience

Experience collected from a mystery box

There were two ways to earn XP. When XP will be re-released, there will be two ways to earn them, but they are different.

Mystery Boxes

Mystery Boxes, which can be collected every 21 hours (before the 2.0 update, every 7 days), gave a range of different amounts of XP. The amount of XP that a player earned was proportional to both their current level and how much progress they had made towards the next level. This way was not introduced in the re-release of XP.

Races

Experience as seen in the results screen after a race.

After each race, XP was earned depending on where they placed in the race. If a player won the race, they receive 1,100 XP, for second place they earned 1,050 XP, for third, they earned 1,030 XP, and for fourth and fifth, they earned 1,000 XP. During events, racers could receive either 25% or 50% bonus XP, depending on the event. When XP was re-released, XP could be earned by other means, such as beating the Wampus, racing with friends, accuracy and speed in races, achieving a new high speed, and gold member bonus.

Daily Challenges

An example of daily challenges, which range from High accuracy in races to racing without Nitros.

A new feature that debuted when XP was re-released, which was titled as "Daily Challenges," which consist of three challenges that update every 21 hours. Upon completing a challenge a player will earn XP.

Uses for Experience

  • XP was used to level up. The higher a level one was, the more XP was required to level up.
  • Some actions and objects required certain level requirements.
    • Certain achievements could be completed by leveling up.
    • Certain dealership cars required a certain level to unlock.
    • Level 5 was required to start a team, along with the $50,000 registration fee.
    • Level 7 was required to change display names.
    • Level 20 was required to purchase Nitro Gold.

Removal

On July 4, experience was removed and replaced with seasonal experience, which requires a player to race a certain number of times before leveling up. The player's level will be reset to 1 after each season ends.

Trivia

  • Travis (NT Admin) has hinted at season's changing to being XP-based, rather than one leveling up based on how many races they complete.
  • On October 12, 2021, Nitro Type Hub announced in a twitter post that XP would be coming back and be in effect when Season 36 started, with new ways to earn XP, such as daily challenges, however, XP could only be earned temporarily, and would be reset every season.
